Scarring Alopecia or Cicatricial Alopecia

Female Hair Loss Information

This is a rare disorder that completely destroys the hair follicle and replaces it with scar tissue, thus causing permanent hair loss.

Scarring alopecia can be the result of external traumatic factors, for example burns or severe infections.

Alternatively, it can be a result of the way the body reacts to an auto-immune disease process. In this case, auto-immune cells cause inflammation which eventually heals with scarring of the hair follicle.

As in the case of alopecia areata, medical treatment is targeted to the cells of the immune system. Anti-inflammatory medication is also used to suppress inflammation and decrease the resultant scarring.

Unlike alopecia areata, however, the hair follicle becomes permanently damaged due to the scar tissue that’s formed.

How we can help

The first step, of course, is to ensure the condition is properly diagnosed by your doctor or consultant and appropriate medical treatment undertaken.

For us to be able to help cosmetically disguise the hair loss, it's important your condition has stabilised - in other words, the hair is no longer falling out.

Our Kinsey System for female hair loss is, in most cases, a potentially perfect cosmetic solution for scarring or cicatricial alopecia.

Remember that we do need some existing hair to "integrate" with - our solution isn't appropriate if you've lost all the hair on your head.

In less severe cases, our super-light Mark Glenn Hair Extensions may be more suitable.

We can advise accordingly during a free consultation at our London studio.
